Instructions:
Click on the "Start " button to start the applet. You can
change the position (p) of the object by typing the number or by dragging it left or
right. The corresponding (q) image position is calculated automatically. Conversely, you
can type the image position and get the applet to determine the position of the object.
You can also input a magnification and get the applet to provide you with the
corresponding p and q for that particular lens. You can change the focal length and the
sign of the focal length of the lens by using the provided button and text input box. You
can also change the lens into a mirror by using the drop down menu. The focal length of
the lens (or mirror) can be changed by clicking on one of the ends and dragging the mouse
until the desired shape is obtained. Clicking with left mouse button and dragging near the
middle of the lens (or mirror) allows you to move the lens to the left or right. Clicking
with right mouse button and dragging near the middle of the lens (or mirror) allows you
the whole optical system: lens, object and image. Throughout your changes, the applet
calculates the new image position and the magnification and draws the corresponding ray
diagram.Navigation: You can come back
to this window by pressing the "Close" box on the applet window. |
