Functional Networks: Similarities between brain dynamics and critical systems
In
last years, a lot of effort has been done in the characterization of
functional brain networks in order to describe large scale brain
organization.
Even when the brain is at rest, complex
spatio-temporal organization is present. Functional Magnetic
Resonance Imaging experiments reveals the presence of dense local
positive correlations with few long range connections, and
anticorrelated non-local structures. In this work, we show that
these features associated to complex brain functional networks can
be found in a paradigmatic case of critical behavior with just
nearest neighbors interactions on a square lattice: the Ising
model at critical temperature.
