Why do we act: Behavioral, physiological and theoretical studies brain systems underlying motivation.
Without
motivation there is no goal-directed action. How does the brainassess
whether the outcome of action is valuable enough to undertake the
action. We are trying to identify the brain systems critical for
motivation,
the mechanisms that underlie motivation, and theoretical principles
that describe how the value might be predicted. I will describe results
from all of our approaches.
