Interactive Physics Workshop

An Introductory Mechanics course using the Interative Physics software application. Syllabus, lecture notes, and links to related materials. By Clive Halliwell, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Java Applet Gallery

A Japanese version is also available.

Kepler    motion Java applet

Initial condition of the "virtual star" is represented by an arrow. It can be Draged to change the initial position and initial velocity. Parameters ( total energy, gravitation potential, effective potential, semimajor axis ...) are viewed graphically. The period is calculated in real time unit. (Fu-Kwun Hwang)

Composition of Velocities

This Macromedia ShockWave applet illustrates visually the concept of velocity composition by showing the velocity vectors relevant to the motion of a boat on a river. (12/30/99, Pascal Renault )

Biopsychology.org

En beskrivning av mekaniken med hjälp av Java

Simulaciones en Sueco

This is a try to visualise physics with the help of Java applets. The site is completely in Swedish, so also this abstract. Meningen är att man ska introduceras i fysiken med hjälp av Java och sedan kunna fördjupa sig genom att läsa någon av de tillhörande html sidorna.

Fizzics Fizzle: A Explorative Guide to Physics! Beginner-Intermediate-Advanced

This site provides a complete, comprehensive, yet interactive guide to learning physics. It provides topics for all ages, from elementary school level to introductory college level. The 3D VRML models and Java toys allow users to interactively explore various concepts in physics. In addition, the Meeting Forum is a place where users can post questions and discuss topics concerning physics or science in general. If you need homework help, the meeting forum is the place to go.

Lecture Demonstation Programs for Physics and Astronomy

The URL points to a directory containing Fortran source code for lecture demonstartion programs in physics and astronomy. The programs make use of the PGPLOT library developed at Cal. Tech. The file readme.first gives a brief description of each program. The file readme.next gives instructions on how to compile and use the programs. The programs are in the public domain and can be used without charge. The user is responsible for any changes made to the source code.

On-Line Physics Educational Material from University of Arkansas

Introduction to mechanics, waves, and thermal physics, using calculus. Homework solutions are also available on the web page. Syllabus, lecture notes, assignments, grades. By Dr. Julio Gea-Banacloche, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Oscillation and wave

A java applet demostrating the motion of a mass hanging from a spring. The net force acts on the mass is F = m g - k x - b v + F0 sin( wt ) All the parameters can be changed. You can check hormonic motion, damped oscillation and external driving force, beats ... When the spring moves, it traces out a wave pattern. (Fu-Kwun Hwang)

Pendulum experiment java applet

Do a pendulum experiment with mouse(click/drag:to change its initial conditions-- length of the pendulum, initial position, gravitational field strength). Parameters (gravitational field and its components, kinetic energy, potential energy, velocity ...) are viewed graphically or displayed with text(length, angle, half period...). A period-initial angle plot is generated automatically, just click/drag the mouse and wait. Try and play with it to find out more features. (Fu-Kwun Hwang)

Physics Tutorials from University of Guelph

Tutorials on Torque and Rotational Motion, DC circuits, Free-body diagrams, exponential growth and decay, simple harmonic motion, biophysics. Simulations of diffusion, radiation.

Pro Solv, Problem Solving Software for Physics and Math

Pro Solv is a software package that can solve mathematical based problems symbolically or numerically. The user can describe a system to Pro Solv in terms of its components and initial or final conditions and Pro Solv will return a mathematical expression for the behavior of that system. After the solution is formed, the user can view and manipulate a three dimensional representation of the system. Contact Problem Solving Concepts, Inc. at 1-800-755-2150

Reaction time measurement/ car animations applet

Would you like to measure your reation time? Would you like to estimate how fast you can drive on the highway. You can change the initial velocity of the car and the friction coefficient of the tires. You can measure your reaction time and estimate how far you should keep your car away from others on the highway.(Fu-Kwun Hwang)

Rotational motion

A tutorial on torque and rotational motion. Right hand rule, units, example problems and a self test.

Fun@Learning.Physics

Visit Mark Sutherland's excellent Java Applet gallery. You'll find applets for Projectile Motion, The Damped Harmonic Oscillator, Elastic Collision, Coupled Oscillations, Coriolis and Centrifugal Forces, The Kepler Problem, The Simple Plane Pendelum, Chaos in the Driven Pendelum, and Motion in an Electronmagnetic Field.

Graduate Classical Mechanics

Graduate course in advanced classical mechanics. Some materials are available online, including a hypertext syllabus and problems with solutions and exams (Word for Windows format). Some simulation packages written in Mathematica are included. Also includes assignments and grades. By Dr Mark I Stockman, Washington State University.

Homework Hints - Introductory Mechanics with Calculus

A collection of hints for the more challenging problems from the text "Fundamentals of Physics, 4th ed." by Halliday, Resnick, and Walker.

The IFMSA WebLab

Mathematical and physics java applets for educational purposes. It is written in italian and the applets are classified by area of interest. Contribution is free, a link is the price. A web course always "work in progress".

The Pendulum Lab

The Pendulum Lab is a combination of a virtual laboratory (with Java applets) and a mini-course in nonlinear dynamics. In the lab you can do hands-on experiments at a rigid pendulum driven in four different ways. Together with the material presented in a lecture room, you can learn basic issues like harmonic oscillator and resonance but also advanced topics like parametric resonance, nonlinear dynamics, and chaos.

Want to solve a word problem in all its gory detail but haven't the inclination to go through all the tedious calculation?

Course Report is a second year course that is dynamically built into a specially designed WWW browser combining the power of symbolic computation with an easy to use simulator interface. A key feature is the interface linking the "rule of three" pedagogy: graphical, analytical and numerical. As you proceed through your problem sets, new problems link up with previous ones in both content as well as infrastructure. Quickly you find the course understandable and feel that you know where it is going.

Despite the similarity in domain name, this site has no connection with the Physicsweb.org web site maintained by IOP Publishing, Ltd. or in any other way with the Institute of Physics. Nonetheless, it is still a useful source for creative test questions and wave superposition simulation software.

Wave Interference

This Macromedia ShockWave applet illustrates visually the concept of interference of transversal waves. The user can set the shape of two wave and watch the interference pattern. (12/30/99, Pascal Renault
